SPECIAL NOTICE in the news today

Broken but out of warranty? You still have rights
"Under a new law, customers may still have a right to return defective goods even if the manufacturer's warranty period has expired."

I was unaware of this until just now. I strongly recommend everybody read the article, it could save you a lot of money and trouble.

I wish this law had been around in 2008 when my Dell laptop broke a week after the 1 year warranty expired, and they wouldn't fix it unless I paid through the teeth. I couldn't take the laptop to anyone other than Dell either, because a fundamental component of the computer, only replacable by Dell, had broken. I've not purchased any Dell products since.

Less important news follows...

Pensioner loses life savings in Indian scam
"Consumer authorities are warning people about a telephone scam operating out of India that has cost a pensioner in Bunbury, south of Perth, her life savings."

She was told by the "Australian Tax Office" that she was eligible for thousands of dollars if she sent them money. Anyone with a brain would wonder why the ATO needs money to give us money, but, lets assume that common sense hasn't kicked in yet and move on.

This scam relied on the womans greed. They usually do. If she hadn't been so greedy, she wouldn't have fallen for the scam.

More importantly, how do you send someone tens of thousands of dollars over a few months under the promise that they will send you more? If you've got $40 000 to send them, you're probably not going to need a couple of extra thousand the 'ATO' could give you. Greed greed greed.

It also says she was wiring the money to India. Wouldn't she have stopped to wonder why the man on the phone claiming to be from the Australian Tax Office sounds Indian? Maybe government agencies have outsourced too. Whatever. Shouldn't she have at least wondered why she was being asked to send the money to India? Surely even the most stupid of retards should think something is up when the ATO is asking them to send money to India.

This wasn't a scam. This was natural selection.

Abbott defends carbon tax interview
"Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has defended comments he made two years ago apparently advocating a carbon tax, saying "everything was different" then."

We have Abbott on video advocating a carbon tax? I said here that the government would win the carbon tax debate. They won't even need to campaign for it anymore. They'll just play this video over and over again. I think this will really kill a lot of momentum Tony built up over this issue, and will probably ultimately lead to him being replaced before the next election.

Aussies wealthier despite carbon tax: Swan
"Treasurer Wayne Swan has released Treasury modelling that promises large increases in personal income despite the introduction of a carbon tax."

But if Abbott claiming a carbon tax was the right way to go isn't enough, this is. The only people opposing a carbon tax after this will be the kind of retards who would wire money to India thinking it's the Australian Tax Office.

Author's husband admits sex with teen, court hears
"A court heard the husband of children's author Mem Fox admitted having sexual contact with a male student."
Police rescue girl before burning house explodes
"An 11-year-old girl has been rescued moments before a burning house exploded on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, killing a man inside."

More rapey news (I can only assume the house was trying to rape the little girl).

  1. You can tell it has been a slow news day by the amount of rape related stories that appear.
